Atheism and Musicianship
Posted by George Sansbury under Blogs
As both equal parts Atheist and Hip Hop head, I find myself searching for amazing music with a positive message, even linking to my lack of religious belief.
This brings me to a musician named Greydon Square. He’s just about the only Hip Hop musician you’ll find on ALL of the internet that is open about his non-spirituality.
Don’t hate me cause im atheist…
Hate me cause I tell the truth which by default makes me atheist
You’ve been spoon fed belief and you don’t even see it
You just absorbed the religion that’s native to your region
You can’t believe it so you won’t believe it
Because the church has taught you that faith belongs in the place of reason
That’s just a small snippet of his lyrics from the first stanza of this song, from the album The Compton Effect.
Next, I’m going to bring to you a little bit of another of my favorite (seemingly) Atheist song.
I lost my way in 87
And turned my heart
And thoughts to heaven
Oh foolish boy
What could you know
Aged elevenI thought I was open
But I was closed
And I thought I had answers
To show the world
And I thought that the good light
Would guide me homeFor thirteen years
I hid away
And waited out the final days
But now there’s time
To live my life
As it decays
Now, this song isn’t as uplifting, as to some it is a bit of a letdown when they find out that their time spent looking for an omniscient invisible man in the sky was to no avail. This does mean a lot to me though, simply because I’ve been down this path before.
I understand what it means to be an Atheist in today’s society. It’s easier for a Homosexual to get elected to public office than an Atheist, but I hope this does change soon.
Anyways, I’m off to clean out my closet. Literally.
